"Neuroeconomics in Drug Abuse" by Shi-Jiang Li, PhD, Professor, Department of Biophysics, Medical College of Wisconsin. Shi-Jiang Li, Ph.D., focuses on fMRI research related to Alzheimer’s disease, drugs of abuse, traumatic brain injury, PTSD and neuropharmacology. He is investigating neural circuitry underlying reward learning and decision making. The central hypothesis is that drugs of abuse are a disease agent and that repeated drug use alters brain valuation circuitry that could bias the decision-making processes and lead to addiction. The study will greatly enhance the understanding of drugs of abuse and may potentially guide the development of new treatments for addiction. He is particularly interested in the neuroeconomics of drug addiction.
