Luci Leykum, MD, MBA, MSc, Associate Professor from University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio will be speaking at the PCOR Seminar in October. Dr. Leykum will present, “Uncertainty in Healthcare Systems: Implications for Improvement and Research.”
Dr. Leykum serves as Division Chief for Hospital Medicine and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs in the School of Medicine. She joined the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio faculty in 2004, after serving on the faculty of the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, where she trained. Dr. Leykum is also a VA Health Services Research investigator in the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. Her work focuses on the application of complexity science to clinical systems, specifically in the area of how physician relationships, learning, sense making, and improvising relate to patient outcomes.
Educational objectives for the session: 1. Identify different types of uncertainty in healthcare settings; 2. Identify situations in which relationship-based approaches to improvement are more likely to be effective; and 3. Apply the concept of sense making to clinical care Lunch and refreshments will be served.
