In 2007, the Medical College's Curriculum and Evaluation Committee initiated an annual Medical Student Teacher award to honor MCW’s Outstanding Medical School Teachers. In 2022, the Curriculum and Evaluation Committee (CEC) awarded 381 educators the Outstanding Medical School Teacher award. Recipients received a recognition pin and letter of commendation for their excellence in teaching during the 2021‑2022 academic year. Recipients were recommended to the CEC by the M1, M2, M3, M4, Pathway, Acting Internship and selected Elective directors to the CEC in recognition of their contribution to the advancement of medical student learning and the value they added to the Course, Clerkship, Acting Internship, Pathway, or Elective. Awards were distributed to recipients at the departmental level to better align with the award intention of public recognition among peers. The pins were funded through a grant from MCW's Learning Resource Fund and designed by Beth Krippendorf, PhD, Professor of Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy with consultation and administration support from the Office of Curriculum.
