Biography
Dr. Saman Shabani joined the faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2022. He completed his residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin and pursued fellowship training at University of California – San Francisco in Complex Spine and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery. He completed his undergraduate studies at University of California – Los Angeles while majoring in Psychobiology and medical training at Stony Brook School of Medicine in Stony Brook, NY. He is returning to Milwaukee to grow the adult spinal deformity and spinal oncology centers to better serve the patients of Wisconsin.
Dr. Shabani’s research focuses on acute and chronic spinal cord injury, spinal oncology, and adult spinal deformity. He has done extensive clinical research on patient outcomes in adult spinal deformity surgery, as well as spinal oncology surgery. Further, he has completed multiple studies on MRI-based spinal research in spinal cord injury.
Dr. Shabani has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers and received multiple grants. He also has won multiple awards, including Charlie Kuntz Scholar Award (2022), Young Surgeon Grant and Education Track (2022), Mayfield Based Science Research Award (2017), and Golden Key Honor Society (2010).
