Biography

Dr. Anju Thomas is a committed researcher with expertise in fetal programming and the metabolic syndrome. She was awarded a Research Fellowship by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in 2010 and earned her PhD in 2018 from the National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR), India. Following a brief tenure as a Scientist at Immucor, USA, Dr. Thomas transitioned to academia to pursue her passion for scientific exploration.

During her postdoctoral studies at the Linda T. and John A. Mellowes Center for Genomic Sciences and Precision Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Thomas focused on understanding the role of EHMT2 in compensating for KRAS-mediated replication stress alongside other projects that involve Pharmaceutical targeting of epigenomic regulators as a cure for Pancreatic Cancer . Over nearly four years, she contributed to advancing knowledge in this domain before joining the Eye Institute.

Currently, Dr. Thomas's research interests are centered on ocular cancers, particularly Uveal Melanoma and childhood cancers like Retinoblastoma. Her deep passion for genomics and proteomics has enabled her to master advanced technologies and methodologies that bridge basic science and translational research.

Dr. Thomas views science as a creative art form and approaches it with systematic precision and curiosity. Beyond the lab, she enjoys exploring the outdoors, experimenting with culinary arts, and practicing Indian classical dance. A certified Kathak dancer by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), she continues to pursue her artistic interests alongside her scientific endeavors.
