In Memory of Bob Uecker

Evan Son UeckerThe LaBahn Pancreatic Cancer Program is honored to carry on Bob Uecker’s legacy through the Bob Uecker Endowed Chair for Pancreatic Cancer Research. The Uecker chair was established through the generosity of Bob Uecker, Bud and Sue Selig, Mark and Debbie Attanasio and additional members of the Brewers organization. The Uecker Chair was established to fuel groundbreaking advancements in pancreatic cancer research that will lead to transformative discoveries, offering hope to patients and families. Through this tribute to 'Mr. Baseball,' his legacy will continue to shape the future of pancreatic cancer research in Milwaukee and throughout the world.

The Uecker Chair is held by Dr. William Hall, Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology and Professor of Radiation Oncology and Surgery. Bill is a founding member of the LaBahn Pancreatic Cancer Program at MCW and like Bob Uecker, 100% Milwaukee!

Additional donations to the Uecker Chair will be used solely for the basic and translational research of pancreatic cancer; the second leading cause of adult cancer death in the state of Wisconsin. The LaBahn Pancreatic Cancer Program at MCW is one of just a handful of endowed programs for pancreatic cancer research and treatment in the world. Patients and families come to Milwaukee from every state in the country for our innovative care and first in human clinical trials based on the amazing science being conducted by the LaBahn team.

A Gift that Continues Our Tradition of Leading the Way

Endowed through a generous gift from Mary Ann and Charles LaBahn, the Pancreatic Cancer Program is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of physicians, scientists, and dedicated staff who share the LaBahns' passion and urgency for making significant progress in the battle against pancreatic cancer.

The Mary Ann and Charles LaBahn Pancreatic Cancer Program serves as a hub for innovation where physicians and scientists are focused on providing hope for a cure to patients and families with pancreatic cancer. The LaBahns’ generosity allows for high-risk, high-reward research leading toward more effective therapies and treatment options for patients with this devastating disease. This philanthropic investment will hasten the pace at which our team can translate laboratory discoveries into treatments for patients.

Our "Surgery Last" Approach

Because of the complicated nature of pancreatic cancer, we believe that multidisciplinary care is the best option for successful treatment. This is especially important for patients with localized, operable cancer, since multimodality treatments have been shown to deliver the best outcomes. Our program helped to spearhead the “surgery last” approach, which advocates for quick and early delivery of chemotherapy and radiation. Not only does this promote an increased chance of controlling the cancer, it sets the stage for a positive surgical outcome.
