Biography

Constance Kostelac, PhD, MS is an assistant professor with the Institute for Health & Equity, Division of Epidemiology & Social Sciences at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and Director of the Division of Data Analytics and Informatics for the Comprehensive Injury Center (CIC). She also leads the efforts of the Milwaukee Homicide Review Commission and DataShare, an integrated data system in Milwaukee. Dr. Kostelac is trained as a social scientist and earned her MS in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Florida State University and her interdisciplinary PhD in Justice Studies from Arizona State University.

Her current interests and work focus on implementation, research, and evaluation activities for violence and overdose prevention and the impact of excessive alcohol use on health outcomes, with an emphasis on community engagement and health equity. Dr. Kostelac has a background in mixed methods research, geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial analysis and is focused on translating research to support policy and practice changes. She also works on a variety of efforts focused on data sharing across sectors to support prevention and intervention activities. She has over 20 years of academic and applied analysis and research experience on a variety of topics and is now working at the intersection of public health and public safety. Prior to joining MCW, Dr. Kostelac was most recently the research director for the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
