Biography
Dr. Truwit serves as the Enterprise Chief Medical Officer and Senior Associate Dean for Quality at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin and is a Professor of Medicine in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He is responsible for Clinical Effectiveness, Population Health, the F&MC W clinically integrated network, Analytics, Clinical Informatics, and Physician Engagement. He also attends in the medical intensive care unit for five weeks per year. Prior to this he served at the University of Virginia in various capacities, including Division Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer.
His research interests are in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), mechanical ventilation, sepsis, quality improvement and signal processing. He has participated in the National Institutes of Health Lung and Blood Institute (NIHLBI) ARDSNet as a PI or Co-PI since 2000-2014. He served as chair of the SAILS trial (Statins for Acute Lung Injury related to Sepsis) and as chair of the ARDSNet ethics committee. Presently he is a site Principal Investigator for NIHLBI CITRUS-ALI, a randomized controlled trial of high dose Vitamin C for Acute Lung Injury related to Sepsis. Other pertinent clinical trials include surfactant for ARDS, other ARDSNet trials, therapeutic agents for sepsis and physiology of mechanical ventilation and weaning.
