Dr. Aparna Ramasubramanian Joins Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Faculty

Aparna Ramasubramanian, MD, has joined the Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences as an associate professor of ophthalmology. Dr. Ramasubramanian specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and ocular oncology and will provide patient care as well as resident education.

Dr. Ramasubramanian completed her medical degree at the Post Graduate Institute of medical Education & Research in Chandigarh, India and her fellowship in Ocular Oncology at Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia and her pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at Children’s Hospital, Boston. She completed ophthalmology residency at Indiana University and Drexel University in Philadelphia.

Most recently, Dr. Ramasubramanian comes to us from Phoenix Children’s Hospital where she served as Director of Ocular Oncology and Medical Director of the Retinoblastoma program. In addition to her patient care, Dr. Ramasubramanian is the author of a leading textbook on Retinoblastoma. She received the Knights Templar Research Award for her research on developing nanoparticle melphalan for intravitreal injection. She received the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award in 2018. She is the principal investigator on a Phase I study evaluating the safety and efficacy of using a sustained release episcleral chemotherapy delivery system for kids with retinoblastoma. The trial received FDA breakthrough status and is ongoing.
