MCW Pathology & Laboratory Medicine - Coagulation

The Coagulation Laboratory at Wisconsin Diagnostic Laboratories offers routine and specialty coagulation laboratory testing for patients at Froedtert Health and surrounding inpatient and outpatient facilities.

The Coagulation Laboratory is directed by Drs. Alexandra Harrington and Ashley Cunningham. Our Coagulation service is staffed by MCW hematopathologists who specialize in the interpretation of laboratory studies for complex bleeding and clotting disorders, such as von Willebrand disease, hemophilia, antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and thrombotic thrombocytopenia purpura. We work closely with hematology physicians from Froedtert Hospital, our Froedtert community hospitals and Versiti to manage patients with complex disorders of hemostasis.

Additionally, our coagulation team teaches laboratory coagulation to medical students, pathology residents, and pathology and oncology fellows at the Medical College of Wisconsin through didactic training, patient case discussions, and our patient care.

We also focus on reducing preanalytical errors and have an interest in quality improvement opportunities in the coagulation laboratory.
