Biography
Dr. Smith’s work as a pediatric psychologist is focused mainly on children impacted by medical conditions and pain, medical trauma, and child/family adjustment to illness. Clinical practice areas include endocrinology and consultation/liaison work on the hospital units at Children’s Wisconsin. Dr. Smith believes in collaborative, empirically supported, patient centered care. Her goal is to work with patients and their caregivers to build a trustworthy relationship that utilizes their strengths to achieve their goals in treatment. Typical therapeutic interventions include cognitive behavioral therapy, behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and supportive counseling. In addition to direct patient care, Dr. Smith provides consultation and education to multidisciplinary team members, psychology and medical trainees. Dr. Smith currently serves as the Director of Psychology Externship at Children’s WI/Medical College of WI. She has been involved in the development of two multidisciplinary clinics and multiple group therapy programs.
