Breast Imaging in the Medical College of Wisconsin Department of Radiology
The Breast Imaging section provides complete breast imaging services. Screening and diagnostic mammography are done by certified technologists, and the exam also includes a breast physical exam by the technologist. Other examinations performed include diagnostic breast ultrasound, image-guided biopsy and cyst aspiration, and preoperative localization. Diagnostic breast MRI is performed elsewhere but interpreted by a breast imaging physician. Breast imaging physicians participate in a weekly Breast Cancer Case Management multidisciplinary conference. A research protocol is underway using the Mammotome ultrasound-guided biopsy system to resect small suspicious lesions preoperatively to determine whether complete excision can be obtained.
