Biography
Hi! I’m Allie Kaiser, and I grew up in Rochester, MN. I graduated from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in May 2022, with a BS in genetics, cell biology and development.
Throughout my undergraduate career I had many opportunities and experiences to grow as an individual and in my understanding and excitement for science. I was an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Niedernhofer’s lab in the Institute of the Biology of Aging and Metabolism, where I had the opportunity to study rare diseases caused by inherited defects in DNA repair and investigated genome instability disorders. In addition to research, I worked as a teaching assistant, where I engaged with and helped students learn about biology.
Outside of research and school, I was on the board of a non-profit called the Diaper Bank of Minnesota, where I advocated for legislative changes, tangibly provided diapers to families in need, and educated my local community about the profound need for diapers in Minnesota. I also volunteered as a crisis counselor for the Crisis Text line.
These experiences and opportunities influenced my path to becoming a genetic counselor, and taught me resilience, empathy, and the importance of making connections and meeting people where they are.
Outside of my academic and volunteer work, I enjoy connecting with friends, sewing, skiing, and spending time outside. I am honored to be a part of the 4th GC cohort at MCW and am looking forward to building connections and contributing to the future of genetic counseling.
