New Book on Leading Through Crisis in GME

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new book, titled, Leading Through Crisis, by Dr. Kathlyn Fletcher, Program Director for MCW’s Internal Medicine residency program.

Taking charge when everything is falling apart is lonely, disorienting, and difficult. In this important and readable new book, Leading Through Crisis: Intimate Stories of Teamwork, Caring, and Character in Graduate Medical Education, Dr. Fletcher and a group of seasoned program directors share practical wisdom and thoughtful solutions based on proven business and organizational strategies. The authors unpack a variety of topics including trainee mental health crises, a death in the program, and preparing for the next pandemic. GME leaders, both young and old, will find inspiration, surprising insights, and comfort as they prepare for the inevitable administrative, academic, and deeply personal crises just around the corner.

  • There is a substantial amount of advice about how to get ready for a crisis (things you can do NOW before a crisis).
  • The stories and advice are very relatable and written in a way to make the reader feel like they are not alone.
