Under the leadership of Dr. Reza Shaker, the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology has a robust clinical, translational; and basic science research program across various subsections of gastroenterology. Our division places special emphasis on teaching and mentorship, as well as partnerships throughout the college. The division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology’s philosophy has always been strongly rooted in the Medical College of Wisconsin’s research mission, as we believe this is the essential element to the advancement of medicine and innovation of patient-centered care.

The division currently has several clinical trials investigating basic science, translational and clinical research in inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatobiliary and advanced endoscopy, hepatology, motility, and general GI at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Froedtert Hospital and VA Zablocki Medical Center. The division’s research mission has been supported by NIH, internal (CTSI, and Digestive Disease Center), Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and industry sponsorship.
