Unique in Wisconsin

Children’s Wisconsin is one of the nation’s top pediatric facilities. Founded in 1894, Children’s provides primary care, specialty care, urgent care, emergency care, community health services, foster and adoption services, child and family counseling, child advocacy services and family resource centers. Care is provided to children from Wisconsin, Michigan, northern Illinois and beyond.

Two Hospital Facilities

The flagship Children’s Wisconsin facility near Milwaukee has 306 beds. Children’s is one of the busiest pediatric hospitals in the country. Our Level I Trauma Center, verified by the American College of Surgeons, houses 13 inpatient units to care for our most critical patients. For children with serious medical conditions, Children’s 72-bed pediatric critical care unit is one of the largest in the nation. Our Level IV, 69-bed neonatal intensive care unit cares for more than 700 critically ill babies each year and our Level IV Epilepsy Center and Neurosciences Research Center has 22 family-oriented rooms, 10 of which are epilepsy monitoring patient rooms.

The Children’s facility in Neenah, Wis., has 42 beds, including a 22-bed NICU.

Private, Independent

Children's is a private, independent, not-for-profit hospital. Our academic partner, The Medical College of Wisconsin, brings many of the nation's most well-respected doctors to our team. We also are affiliated with more than a dozen schools of nursing and a number of other pediatric education programs.

Patients Served

Children’s is one of the busiest pediatric hospitals in the nation. In recent years:

  • More than 23,000 infants, children and adolescents were admitted to Children’s.
  • More than 305,000 were seen in the hospital’s specialty outpatient clinics urgent care sites.
  • More than 21,000 surgical procedures were performed at Children’s and our Surgicenter.
  • The Emergency Department/Trauma Center has some of the highest volumes in the country, treating nearly 66,000 children.

Subspecialties

The Department of Pediatrics includes all pediatric subspecialties and disciplines. More than 70 specialty clinics provide outpatient diagnosis and treatment for a wide variety of pediatric disorders. Specialty clinics include asthma/allergy/immunology, birthmarks/vascular anomalies, cancer, cardiology, dental, dermatology, diabetes/ endocrinology, ear/nose/throat, gastroenterology, neonatology, neurology, orthopedics, pulmonary/sleep, sports medicine/concussion and urology. In addition to clinics on the Milwaukee hospital campus, many of these outpatient services also are available at locations throughout metro Milwaukee and Wisconsin.

Clinical Research

Our research institute advances state-of-the-art pediatric health care practice through dedicated laboratory and clinical research. Based on the concept of translational research, the institute is designed to take clinical problems from patients' bedsides to study in the laboratory. Laboratory discoveries then are converted into new treatments, preventions, therapies and cures for patients.
