Medical College of Wisconsin Green Bay Campus Holds Commencement Ceremony, Celebrates 100th Graduating Physician
Green Bay, June 1, 2022 – The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) Green Bay Campus will hold its commencement ceremony on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 11 a.m. CDT at St. Norbert College. The ceremony will bestow a Doctor of Medicine degree to 29 graduates in the class of 2022.
MCW's Green Bay campus was launched as a community partnership encompassing resources from MCW, two undergraduate institutions, and multiple health systems. This year's graduation will mark more than 100 graduates to date. As those graduates finish residency and return to the community, they begin to impact the longstanding physician shortage across the state of Wisconsin.
"We are proud of the successes we have achieved thus far in training physicians here in northeast Wisconsin and the simultaneous building of primary care and psychiatry residency capacity in our community. We look forward to the continued focus on partnering to train local students as a solution to the long-standing physician shortage," said founding campus dean Matthew L. Hunsaker, MD.
Katie Sonnentag is one of the seven MCW-Green Bay graduating students staying in Wisconsin for their medical residency training.
"I was born and raised, attended college, and worked during my gap years in Wisconsin, so it is safe to say that I love this state,” said Sonnentag. “I plan to stay in Wisconsin after residency to practice, so there is no better place to learn how to take care of the people of Wisconsin than here."
The Keynote speaker at the commencement ceremony will be Ashok Rai, MD, president and CEO of Prevea Health.
